The Kaduna-born politician also previously held office as Governor of Kaduna State from 2007 to 2010. His defection marks a significant political shift as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections. A photo of Sambo with the current Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has since circulated widely, confirming the political realignment.
Sambo now joins a growing list of high-profile politicians abandoning the PDP for the APC in what analysts describe as a strategic move ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Meanwhile, former APC National Youth Leader, Ismail Ahmed, has addressed growing public discontent with the ruling party. In an interview on Channels Television, Ahmed dismissed fears that President Bola Tinubu and APC leaders might face public outrage or rejection due to current economic hardships.
He asserted that Nigerians still have hope in the government and are willing to trust the process. Ahmed emphasized that the Tinubu administration has steered the country away from bankruptcy and is investing borrowed funds in visible infrastructural development projects nationwide.
Despite criticisms regarding inflation, insecurity, and hunger, Ahmed insisted that the APC-led government has not failed within its first two years in office and still has time to meet citizens’ expectations.
