Addressing the public on Thursday evening during a visit to the repair site, Umahi responded to the backlash over the closure by assuring that the Independence Bridge would reopen to commuters by Friday afternoon. He explained that the repair work would be postponed to a later date.

“Let me announce that those going to work tomorrow should feel free to use this route from 3 pm. The bridge will be reopened at the latest by 3 pm tomorrow, to the glory of God. We are committed to working throughout the night to restore it,” he stated.
