Police in Lagos have apprehended two individuals suspected of robbery while posing as alms beggars amidst traffic jams. The incident occurred when the pair approached a motorist stuck in a gridlock at the Agungi area in Lekki last Friday. Pretending to solicit alms, they instead forcefully seized the motorist’s mobile phone and jewelry before fleeing the scene.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police, informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday that upon receiving the motorist’s alert, a nearby police patrol team swiftly apprehended the robbers. The stolen items were successfully recovered from them, and Hundeyin confirmed that the suspects will face appropriate legal action.
Additionally, Hundeyin disclosed that another arrest was made when a woman attempted to conduct a business transaction worth N90,000 using counterfeit N1,000 notes at a Point of Sale (PoS) terminal. The vigilant PoS operator promptly raised an alarm, leading to the apprehension of the woman, who is currently in police custody pending further investigation.
