UK Clarifies Reasons Behind Air Peace’s Denial Of Heathrow Airport Slots To Tinubu GovernmentThe United Kingdom Government has explained the denial of landing slots for Nigerian airline Air Peace at Heathrow Airport. The explanation was provided in a letter from Secretary of State for Transport, Louise Haigh, to Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Keyamo had previously sent a diplomatic letter to UK aviation authorities requesting slots for Air Peace at Heathrow, a key airport for many international airlines. In her response, Haigh noted that Air Peace’s requests for slots were submitted too late for both the Summer 2024 and Winter 2024/2025 seasons.

She indicated that Air Peace’s requests arrived after Airports Coordination Limited (ACL) had completed the coordination process for the summer season. Haigh outlined the options available to Air Peace, including joining a waitlist, operating from an alternative airport, or acquiring slots through trading and commercial agreements with other carriers.

The letter emphasized: “We encourage Air Peace to continue to engage with Airports Coordination Limited on acquiring ad-hoc and historic slots at the UK’s coordinated airports. ACL confirmed that Air Peace’s requests were late for both the Summer 2024 and Winter 2024/2025 seasons, as they were received after the coordination process had concluded. Adhering to proper procedures will enhance the likelihood of obtaining available slots.”

Haigh also pointed out the constraints at Heathrow Airport, where runway capacity and air traffic limits restrict the number of available slots. For the Summer 2024 season, a total of 290,580 slots were available, but requests exceeded 319,721, leaving 29,141 unfulfilled requests on a waitlist.

She suggested Gatwick Airport as an alternative, highlighting its many connections to Europe, Asia, and North America, along with direct rail access to central London. The Department acknowledges the challenges faced by new carriers and advises that they can either join the waitlist, operate from another airport, or seek slots through trading with other airlines.
