Umahi Sparks Reaction, Says Previous Election Outcome Was An Accident Of History
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has described the 2023 general election outcome in which President Bola Tinubu performed poorly in the South-East as an “accident of history,” insisting it will not be repeated in future elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Umahi made the remarks while inspecting the ongoing Abaomege/Akpaha/Afikpo road project in Ebonyi State.
He said he would work closely with Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, to ensure that President Tinubu secures as much as 95 per cent of votes in the 2027 general election in the state.
The minister added that no president has undertaken the level of infrastructure projects currently being executed by Tinubu in Ebonyi and the wider South-East, challenging critics to point to anyone who has done more for the region.
Umahi further stated that the state would embark on aggressive mobilisation and campaign efforts to reward the president for what he described as his developmental strides in the region.
He said, “I use this opportunity to ask our leaders to come out and speak out. We have always complained of marginalisation, but now we are not marginalised under this President.”
He added that the Ministry of Works is one of the largest ministries in the administration and is being led by an Igbo man, describing it as a sign of trust and inclusion.
“There’s no ministry as big as Works in this administration, and it is being handled by an Igbo man. That shows trust. Without that, perhaps we would not be seeing this magnitude of projects in the South-East,” he said.
Umahi further noted that the President has strategically brought South-East indigenes into key positions in national governance.
He said, “I have not even started talking about the good things the President is doing in the South-East. Let anyone come and tell me who else would have done what he is doing.”
The minister declared that Ebonyi State, in collaboration with the governor, would deliver overwhelming support for Tinubu in 2027.
“We will deliver 95 per cent of our votes to the President. We have no reason to go otherwise,” he said.
He concluded that the last general election would not be repeated, adding that a stronger political alignment would ensure greater electoral support for the President in the region.
