Tragedy struck in Enugu State as unknown gunmen attacked a police division in Umabor Eha-Alumona, claiming the lives of two policemen and one Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) personnel on Saturday night.

In another harrowing incident, gunmen targeted HRH Igwe Patrick Eze, also known as Igwe Waziri, in Orba, Udenu Local Area of the state. Igwe Waziri, the traditional ruler of Egali Amalla Community, managed to escape, but a police officer and an FRSC personnel were fatally wounded.

This grim occurrence follows closely on the heels of another attack where two policemen attached to the Enugu State Police Command lost their lives. The policemen, conducting a routine stop-and-search along Presidential Road, Enugu, were ambushed by armed assailants around 9.30pm.

Reacting to these tragic events, Governor Peter Mbah announced a N10 million bounty on the perpetrators. He assured the public that his administration would spare no effort in bringing the culprits to justice, rallying law enforcement agencies to intensify their pursuit of the assailants.

Mbah identified the Eastern Security Network (ESN), a security outfit associated with the Indigenous People of Biafra, as the likely perpetrators, citing intelligence reports indicating their involvement. He urged the public to cooperate with security forces and report any relevant information that could aid in apprehending the criminals.

In a press briefing after a State Security Council meeting, Governor Mbah emphasized the state’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of its citizens, vowing to deploy all available resources to track down and neutralize the perpetrators. He urged the assailants to desist from their violent activities, warning that Enugu State would not tolerate such lawlessness.

As the investigation unfolds, residents of Enugu State remain on high alert, with security agencies intensifying efforts to apprehend those responsible for these heinous acts.
