At the premium end, fire-resistant refractory cement used in industrial projects costs as much as ₦33,000 per bag.
Factors Driving Rising Cement Prices
-
Energy Costs – Cement production is energy-intensive, and soaring gas and power prices have driven up costs.
-
Logistics & Transportation – Poor road conditions, rising diesel prices, and haulage expenses add to the final retail cost.
-
Forex Volatility – With many inputs and machinery tied to the U.S. dollar, naira depreciation directly affects production costs.
-
Market Demand – Peak construction periods drive up demand and, in turn, retail prices.
-
Specialization – POP, white, and fire cement serve niche purposes, come from limited producers, and have higher production costs.
