Despite the ultimatum given by ECOWAS to Niger, the military junta has shown no signs of yielding.

In a statement on Friday, the USIP country manager, Chris Kwaja, emphasized the need for military force to remove the coup leaders and curb the activities of security mercenaries in the region.

He warned that without prompt action against the coup leaders, security contractors might exploit the region’s fragility and natural resources.

Kwaja highlighted that an invasion of Niger by ECOWAS would send a strong message to external forces supporting and orchestrating the ongoing crisis.

He also stressed the importance of addressing the issue of private military and security contractors in the region, noting that there is currently no regional framework in place to handle this challenge.

The USIP official pointed out that Africa has been a theater for mercenary activities, and addressing this issue is critical for regional stability.

By taking decisive action against the coup leaders and security contractors, ECOWAS can demonstrate its commitment to restoring stability and democratic governance in Niger Republic.
