UTME 2025 In Danger? JAMB Issues Urgent Warning Over Fraudulent Messages

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has alerted candidates registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) about the circulation of scam messages aimed at deceiving and defrauding them.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, clarified that the messages are not from the board but are being sent by suspected fraudsters.

According to him, these scammers have crafted messages using a manipulated version of the UTME short code, 8863, in combination with JAMB’s official code, 55019, to make the communications appear legitimate.

The deceptive messages claim that there are errors in the candidates’ registration details and instruct recipients to contact specific individuals who allegedly offer to resolve the issue.

Benjamin strongly advised candidates to disregard such messages, warning that they are part of a broader scheme by fraudsters who typically exploit the examination season to target unsuspecting students.

“These messages are not from JAMB. Security agencies have been alerted and are already working to trace those behind this criminal activity,” he stated.

He urged the public, especially UTME candidates, to be vigilant and verify the authenticity of any message they receive. He emphasized that any communication not issued through JAMB’s official channels or containing questionable content should be treated as fraudulent.
