A suspected arsonist is currently at large after allegedly setting fire to his ex-girlfriend’s residence while she and her children were inside in New Mexico.
The man’s attempt at arson took a dramatic turn when he inadvertently ignited himself while reportedly setting fire to the property.
Security camera footage, captured by Daniel Provine, depicts the moment the woman’s home in Albuquerque became engulfed in flames. The suspect is then observed fleeing down the street, his clothing ablaze.
In the video, the flaming individual is seen leaping over a fence in an effort to escape the inferno.
Neighbor Daniel Provine, who recorded the incident, remarked to KOB4: “I couldn’t help but chuckle at the somewhat comical nature of the situation—if you’re going to commit arson, try to avoid setting yourself ablaze in the process. Seems like that fellow received a bit of poetic justice in the ordeal.”
The footage also captures the man approaching the property with a five-gallon gasoline canister, hopping over the fence, and pouring the fuel before the fire erupted.
