Video: Falana Challenges Ali Modu Sheriff, Revives Boko Haram Sponsorship Allegation
Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has alleged that former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, provided financial support to the early activities of the Boko Haram insurgent group.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Falana made the allegations in a video that has been widely circulated on social media.
In the video, the senior lawyer revisited comments he said he had previously made about the origins of the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno State and challenged Sheriff to institute legal action against him if the allegations were untrue.
According to Falana, Sheriff allegedly financed the group and entered into a political arrangement with its members ahead of the 2003 governorship election in Borno State.
“I am expecting him to sue me. He said he wanted to sue an Australian, but he doesn’t need to go to Australia. What you are looking for in Sokoto is in the pocket of your Sokoto,” Falana said.
He further alleged, “Not only did he sponsor that organisation by providing funds for them, in 2003, he had a deal with the Boko Haram sect to help him win the election.”
Falana also claimed that after assuming office, Sheriff appointed Buji Foi as Commissioner for Religious Affairs before Foi later resigned from the administration.
The senior advocate further alleged that Sheriff was once arrested in Cameroon over alleged links to Boko Haram but was subsequently released. He also referenced previous allegations made by the late Reverend Stephen Davis, who publicly claimed that some prominent Nigerians financed the insurgent group.
Ali Modu Sheriff has repeatedly denied any involvement with or sponsorship of Boko Haram and has consistently rejected allegations linking him to the insurgent group.
