VIDEO: Tension Gives Way To Massive Turnout At Aregbesola’s Polling Unit After Attack

The polling unit of former Osun State Governor and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, recorded a significant voter turnout on Saturday during the ongoing governorship election.

Aregbesola’s Ifofin Unit 001, Ward 8, in Ilesa East Local Government Area, was among the polling locations where voters turned out to participate in the election.

A voter identified as Adeniyi Taye commended residents for coming out in large numbers to exercise their franchise.

He noted that the sizeable crowd at the polling unit reflected the willingness of residents to participate in the electoral process.

Three polling booths are located close to one another in the area, with voting reportedly underway at all three except Ward 8, Unit 10.

However, the Presiding Officer, Elizabeth Adaramaja, told journalists that chairs and tables had initially not been provided for the INEC ad hoc staff at the polling location.

An ADC party agent, Samson Grace, however, said the issue had been resolved and voting had commenced.

She explained that there had been a brief delay but that the situation was subsequently addressed.

The development came after voting at Aregbesola’s polling unit was reportedly disrupted earlier in the day following the alleged invasion of the area by suspected thugs.

The incident reportedly caused some voters to leave the polling unit amid concerns over their safety.

Despite the earlier disruption, voting later resumed, with the polling unit recording a notable turnout of voters.
