According to Okechukwu, Atiku’s failure to seize the golden opportunity and act as a statesman by endorsing his former running mate, Peter Obi, or any other Southern presidential candidate, led to division within the opposition party.
“Atiku dealt a significant blow to the PDP, and it may be challenging for them to recover from this setback,” Okechukwu remarked.
He rejected claims made by the petitioners that President Bola Tinubu was not qualified to run, allegations of election irregularities, and the failure to electronically transmit results in real-time, asserting that these issues were fatal to the respondents’ case.
“These complex issues could have been resolved if Atiku had adhered to the zoning convention and supported Peter Obi or another Southern presidential candidate.
It could have been a straightforward contest between Southern candidates. Atiku’s actions divided the PDP’s votes irreparably,” Okechukwu explained.
He further praised Tinubu for upholding the zoning convention, which promotes equity and natural justice between the North and South.
