The Ondo State chapters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) are locked in a heated exchange over alleged mismanagement of local government funds allocated by the Federal Government.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The SDP accused the state government of unlawfully seizing federal allocations meant for local government development—an action the party claims undermines the principles of local government autonomy.
In a statement, SDP Chairman Gbenga Akinbuli alleged that the APC-led administration in the state had diverted the funds meant for grassroots development.
“We have reliable information that federal allocations intended for local governments are being intercepted and controlled by the state government,” Akinbuli stated.
He warned that such actions threaten the foundations of fiscal federalism, local autonomy, and democratic governance.
“It is appalling that funds designated for critical services at the grassroots—like healthcare, education, infrastructure, and security—are being siphoned off. This not only hinders development but also damages public trust in the democratic process,” he added.
Reacting to the allegations, APC’s Director of Media and Publicity, Steve Otaloro, categorically dismissed the claims as false and inflammatory.
“These accusations are complete fabrications, designed to mislead the public and stir up unnecessary political tension,” Otaloro said.
He urged the SDP to verify its facts before making “baseless” statements, stressing that the distribution of local government funds follows due process and transparency.
“At no time has the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa interfered with or diverted local government funds. These allocations are disbursed strictly according to procedures set by the federation account,” he said.
Otaloro added that since assuming office, Governor Aiyedatiwa has ensured that local governments continue to function efficiently, even in the absence of elections, in line with democratic values and accountability.
