During an appearance on Inside Sources with Laolu Akande on Channels Television, Arase emphasized the need for careful consideration and safeguards to prevent misuse of state police by governors. He highlighted the importance of recognizing that policing is inherently local, and crime is often influenced by the surrounding environment. While supporting the idea of state police, Arase raised concerns about the possibility of governors having direct control over the appointment of key police personnel, such as commissioners and deputy commissioners.

To address this issue, Arase proposed a system where individuals from civil society organizations, reputable lawyers, traditional rulers, and religious leaders would be empowered to participate in the appointment of police commissioners within the state police framework. By involving a diverse group of stakeholders, the aim is to prevent potential bias and ensure that the police force operates independently of political influences.

Furthermore, Arase expressed his dismay at the current crime rate in the country, emphasizing the need for a stronger focus on prosecution as a deterrent. He argued that without significant consequences for criminal actions, crimes would continue to flourish. Arase called for a shift towards more robust prosecution efforts, asserting that a lack of consequences hampers the ability to attract investment to regions plagued by crime.
