The union had previously informed its members of the intent to commence an indefinite strike if the payment of the 40% Peculiar Allowance was not made by the end of November.
However, shortly before the scheduled strike, the leadership of JUSUN engaged in discussions with officials from the National Judicial Council, Chief Registrars of FCT, Federal Courts, and Secretaries of judicial bodies, resulting in a resolution.
A communique released following the meeting conveyed JUSUN’s warning that a failure to implement the agreements reached would trigger an indefinite strike without prior notice.
The communique outlined key points, stating, “The implementation of the 40% Peculiar Allowance will commence from November, with the arrears from January to October 2023 to be included in the 2024 budget.
The NJC, along with the chief registrars of FCT and federal courts, and secretaries of judiciary bodies, have agreed to include JUSUN in the 2024 Appropriation Budget for the Arrears of Peculiar Allowances.
In the event of non-compliance with the above agreement by the end of the November salary cycle, JUSUN will have no alternative but to initiate an indefinite strike without prior notice. Based on the agreements mentioned, JUSUN has resolved to temporarily halt the strike.
