Washington Strikes Back — Corrupt Power Brokers Barred From American Soil

The United States government has issued a stern warning that involvement in corrupt practices could lead to visa denials for offenders, regardless of their status or influence.

In a statement released Monday via the official account of the U.S. Mission in Nigeria, Washington emphasized that accountability has no boundaries:

“Fighting corruption knows no borders or limits on accountability. Even when high-profile individuals engage in corruption, they can be barred from receiving U.S. visas,” the mission stated.

The advisory marks another strong stance by the American government under President Donald Trump, who, since beginning his second term, has further tightened visa policies and immigration rules.

Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently blamed the spate of U.S. visa restrictions and denials faced by innocent Nigerians on the damaging activities of internet fraudsters, popularly known as Yahoo Boys.

EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, raised the concern on Monday, September 15, 2025, during an event organized by the Coalition of Nigerian Youth on Security and Safety Affairs (CONYSSA) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

He cautioned Nigerian youths in the South-South to shun cybercrime, describing it as a destructive trap that ruins lives and futures.

Olukoyede stressed that beyond tarnishing Nigeria’s image abroad, internet fraud constitutes economic sabotage that drains the nation of billions of naira annually.
