In a statement issued by the Ministry of Education’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Boriowo Folasade, the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, assured that all legitimate scholarship beneficiaries continue to receive government support.

Alausa emphasized that no Nigerian student on a valid Federal Government scholarship has been neglected, noting that beneficiaries enrolled under the Bilateral Education Scholarship Programme before 2024 were funded through the 2024 budget year in line with government commitments.

He explained that any delays in payments stem from fiscal challenges but said the issue is being addressed through ongoing engagements between the Ministries of Education and Finance.

The minister also debunked reports of new bilateral scholarship awards allegedly issued from October 2025 onward, describing the documents circulating as fake and unauthenticated.

According to Alausa, the decision to phase out certain overseas scholarship schemes followed a thorough policy review which found that Nigerian tertiary institutions now possess the capacity to deliver such programmes locally.

Reiterating the government’s dedication to student welfare, he warned against the spread of misinformation aimed at undermining reforms intended to strengthen local capacity, ensure accountability, and safeguard the credibility of the education sector.
