The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for taking a considerable risk in appointing him as minister, acknowledging that the decision faced protests. Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, highlighted that despite the opposition to Tinubu’s decision, the president remained resolute. Urging acceptance of the president’s choice, he emphasized that it might not be the ideal decision, but there is no alternative. Wike recalled the president’s bold move in appointing him as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, despite public protests, and encouraged others to support the decision for the greater good of Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole.
He called for unity, stating, “Whether you are APC or PDP or you don’t belong to any of the parties, we owe a duty to give Mr. President support to move this country forward.” Wike also addressed accusations of betrayal, asserting that he did not betray the PDP. He reiterated their commitment to standing firm and making decisions based on what was deemed necessary for the country. Wike commended the Speaker and other members for promptly obeying the president’s directive without attaching any conditions, emphasizing the need for collective support to propel the nation forward.
