During a recent television interview, Governor Wike made a strong assertion that nobody within the party, including members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and National Executive Committee (NEC), could compel him to leave the PDP.
“How can anyone even discuss the possibility of expelling me?” he queried. “With all due respect, I haven’t encountered such an individual. Nobody will take such a step. So, the idea of someone doing it simply doesn’t apply.

We are merely awaiting the conclusion of the presidential panel’s inquiry, and then we’ll identify those who have truly worked in the party’s best interest.”
Wike continued to emphasize his position, saying, “How can anyone even discuss the possibility of expelling me? A state that brought forth a governor? A state that returned three senators? A state that produced 32 members of the House of Assembly? A state that delivered 11 out of 13 House of Representatives members? The person who would suspend me is the one who couldn’t produce a governor, the one who couldn’t secure three senators.
I haven’t come across such an individual, with all due respect. Nobody will take such action. Therefore, the notion that they might do so is irrelevant.”
Since Wike’s controversial remarks, there has been a division among PDP stakeholders regarding the next steps to be taken.
Apart from Wike, other PDP leaders, particularly sitting governors who allegedly worked against the party’s interests before and during the 2023 general elections, were rumored to face potential sanctions. However, no action has been taken against any of these governors thus far.
