Wike Breaks Silence On Fubara’s Political Future, Reveals Governor’s Role In Tinubu’s Re-Election Campaign
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has lost his political relevance following the prolonged political disagreement between them.
Wike maintained that Fubara’s political future remains promising, stressing that the governor is still young and actively involved in political activities.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the FCT Minister made the remarks on Thursday in Abuja during his monthly media chat with selected journalists, where he also disclosed that Fubara is a member of the Rainbow Coalition, a multi-party political group supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
Wike explained that Fubara had demonstrated his involvement in the coalition by unveiling its candidates in Rivers State, dismissing suggestions that the governor had become politically isolated.
“Governor Fubara is a young man. It will be incorrect to say that his political future is gone,” Wike stated.
He further noted that Fubara was actively participating in the activities of the Rainbow Coalition, contrary to claims that his political standing had been weakened by the political disagreement.
The FCT Minister also used the media briefing to respond to comments made by former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who recently declared that Wike could never be his political leader.
Oyinlola had made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, explaining that he was already a governor when Wike was still in school. He also described the FCT Minister as someone junior to him politically.
However, Wike rejected Oyinlola’s position, describing the former governor as unsuccessful and claiming that he failed to secure a second term in office.
Wike further alleged that Oyinlola had previously approached him to lobby for the position of deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but he rejected the request.
According to the FCT Minister, he turned down Oyinlola’s appeal because he believed the former governor would not succeed in the position.
“Oyinlola was a failed governor who couldn’t win a second term as Osun governor. Oyinlola says he is my senior, but he comes to lobby me to become deputy chairman. I told him no, that I would fail him, and I did,” Wike said.
The exchange highlights the continuing political tensions involving prominent PDP figures, particularly as political alignments and preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
