Wike Explains Decision To Build Judges’ Housing On Julius Berger-Allocated Land In FCTNyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), shared on Monday how he revoked the certificate of occupancy (C of O) for several plots of land allocated to Julius Berger in the Katampe District of Abuja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Wike made this statement during the official flag-off ceremony for the design and construction of 40 Judges’ Quarters, attended by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem.

The former governor of Rivers State recounted the circumstances that led to the revocation, explaining that he discovered the unused land while searching for suitable plots for development.

“I saw the large sign: ‘Julius Berger,’ but didn’t say anything at first. I then inquired with the director of lands about the ownership of the land. He informed me it had been allocated to Julius Berger about 15 to 20 years ago, yet no development had occurred,” Wike explained.

He recounted that after inviting the managing director of Julius Berger for dinner, he chose not to mention the land. However, the next day, the MD visited his office and found a letter revoking the land’s allocation.

“He called me, surprised, saying, ‘But we had dinner together.’ I replied that we did, but we didn’t discuss the land. It’s unacceptable for the government to allocate land for over 20 years without any development. Fortunately, they hadn’t developed it, and now we can proceed with our plans.
