He made this observation while highlighting the lack of implementation of a law that establishes a civil service commission for the FCT.
Wike explained that he had brought this law to the attention of Tinubu, who approved its initiation. Speaking at a press conference, Wike praised Tinubu for his political resolve and capability, which led him to collaborate with the current administration.
Wike stated, “One of the challenges in our country pertains to leadership; many individuals are hesitant to take action. Not all actions will be universally accepted.
In 2018, the National Assembly passed a bill into law, which was subsequently signed into law by the former Vice-President Osinbajo when he was serving as the acting President.”
He went on to explain that this law stipulates the establishment of a civil service commission for the FCT, but there has been a reluctance to implement it.
According to Wike, people have been avoiding its implementation due to concerns that it might diminish their authority.
He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the institution over personal interests, emphasizing that ministers and heads of service will come and go, but the law remains.
Wike posed the question, “If the National Assembly passes a bill into law that is then assented to by the President, what is wrong with implementing that law?”
