Speaking at the 70th birthday event of Hon. Ken Chikere in Port Harcourt on Friday, Wike addressed the ongoing political unrest in Rivers State.
He made it clear that while he welcomes peace, it must be genuine and inclusive of all key political actors, warning against any superficial gestures.
“We are men of peace, not troublemakers,” Wike declared. “But it must be a sincere peace, not one used as a smokescreen. The State Assembly, National Assembly, and leaders of both major parties must all be part of it.”
Wike also took a swipe at some elder statesmen, accusing them of enabling the crisis through their silence—a move interpreted as a veiled criticism of Fubara’s loyalists and some traditional authorities.
He challenged their commitment to genuinely resolving the conflict.
Additionally, Wike slammed the use of media campaigns and blackmail, insisting they would not bring about peace.
“No amount of public embarrassment or media attacks will bring peace. Only humility and a genuine focus on the state’s welfare can do that,” he stated.
