The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to abandon any expectation of an easy path to victory ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that political power must be earned through determination and hard work.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Wike made the remarks on Wednesday during the PDP’s 109th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, where he challenged party members to remain focused and resilient despite the party’s current challenges.

According to the former Rivers State governor, successful opposition politics requires strong organisation, courage, and a willingness to make sacrifices.

He argued that political power is never handed over willingly but must be secured through sustained effort and strategic engagement.

“Nobody gives power. Power is taken. You have to struggle for it in order to get it,” Wike said. “You have to fight for it and work for it. There is no reason to be afraid.”

Drawing from his own political journey, Wike encouraged aspiring leaders and party members not to be discouraged by pressure, arrests, intimidation, or legal battles, noting that political success is often achieved through perseverance in difficult circumstances.

Addressing concerns over ongoing internal disputes and court cases involving the PDP, the FCT minister expressed confidence that the party remains on course for the 2027 elections and would not be distracted by legal challenges.

“From my understanding, June 26 is the date political parties will be given access codes to upload election results. We are fully prepared and ready to move forward,” he said.

Wike also dismissed fears surrounding court proceedings, insisting that the judiciary remains part of the democratic process and should not intimidate party members.

Reflecting on the party’s current situation, he noted that many PDP members were still adjusting to life in opposition after years of enjoying the privileges associated with being in power.

According to him, reclaiming political relevance will require a change in mindset and a renewed commitment to rebuilding the party from within.

He urged members to stop dwelling on past advantages and instead focus on the hard work required to return the PDP to national prominence ahead of the next electoral cycle.
