The Edo State Police Command apprehended Blessing Ogunu, a woman accused of orchestrating her own kidnapping. The command’s spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, revealed in a statement on Monday, April 15, 2024, that Ogunu, employed at a real estate firm, allegedly demanded a ransom of N4.8 million for her release.

Nwabuzor stated that Ogunu collaborated with two others, Esther Anthony and Ukpebor Joel, in fabricating the abduction. During questioning, Ogunu admitted to planning her self-abduction because her company had failed to fulfill an agreement with a client who had paid them for land.

“On 23/03/2024, the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit received a complaint from one Samuel Prince Omomuzo of No 102, Ihama Road, Benin City, alleging the kidnapping of Blessing Ogunu, a Bliss Legacy Limited employee. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of four million, eight hundred thousand naira (#4,800,000.00),” Nwabuzor stated.

“Utilizing technical intelligence, operatives apprehended the supposed kidnapping victims, Blessing Ogunu, Esther Anthony, and Ukpebor Joel. During interrogation, Blessing Ogunu confessed to orchestrating her own kidnapping due to her company’s failure to fulfill a land allocation agreement with a customer who had paid them,” he added.
