Yobe Transformer Vandal Dies From Electrocution

A suspected vandal was found dead inside a transformer substation at Commissioners’ Quarters 1 in Damaturu, Yobe State. The body was retrieved by the Damaturu police patrol team known as “Operation Haba Maza” and transported to the mortuary at the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital. The deceased was later identified and claimed by his relatives.

Blessing Tunoh, Communications Officer for the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), reported that the Regional Manager and the Operation and Maintenance Officer of YEDC visited the scene following the incident. According to Yobe State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the suspect was electrocuted around 1:00 am when the power was unexpectedly restored during a power outage. The body was discovered early in the morning by residents heading to the mosque for prayers.

The Maisandari ‘B’ Division of the Yobe State Police Command was notified promptly, and personnel were dispatched to remove the body. Tunoh quoted the PPRO as emphasizing that the YEDC will continue to collaborate with the police to protect their infrastructure and pursue legal action against those who damage power assets and disrupt services.
