The protesters gathered beside Freedom Park in Osogbo, highlighting the unbearable rise in the cost of living, particularly affecting the impoverished masses. Comrade Owolabi Hassan Oluwatobi, the convener of the protest, emphasized the widespread suffering among Nigerians due to the ongoing economic hardships in the country.

During interviews with the media, Comrade Waheed Lawal, the Chairman of the Civil Society Coalition in the state, directed a plea to President Bola Tinubu, urging swift action to address the economic difficulties. Lawal warned of a potential large-scale protest by the civil society organization if the federal government did not provide effective solutions to alleviate the economic hardships faced by the populace.

Lawal emphasized the need for the government to take immediate measures to improve the living conditions of the citizens, rejecting the current state of renewed hardship. He expressed disappointment with the disparity between the promised “renewed hope” and the reality of increased difficulties faced by Nigerians. Security concerns were also raised, with Lawal highlighting the pervasive insecurity affecting daily life. The fear of kidnappings and the rising trend of monarch abductions were underscored as critical issues that demanded government intervention.

Lawal stressed that ensuring the safety and security of citizens is a constitutional responsibility of the government. He conveyed a strong message that any government failing to provide such security is no longer fulfilling its governing role. The protesters affirmed their readiness to confront the government on the prevailing economic hardships, declaring their determination to persist in their advocacy for improved living conditions and national security.
