The lawyers emphasized the urgency of their request, particularly in light of Maina’s deteriorating health. They implored the president to consider their demands based on compassionate and health-related reasons.
The statement conveyed, “In the letter we submitted, we have meticulously outlined our appeals, foremost among them is the lawful presidential intervention to secure Maina’s release from detention.
Given the current precarious state of Nigeria’s economy and the need for funding various projects, including subsidy removal, we believe Maina’s expertise has played a vital role.
The group highlighted Maina’s contributions to the nation’s financial landscape, noting that he facilitated the recovery of substantial amounts for successive administrations.
Under President Goodluck Jonathan, Maina played a pivotal role in recovering N1.3 trillion, and during President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure, he contributed to the retrieval of N1.6 trillion.
The lawyers pointed out that Maina’s challenges emerged when it came time to compensate him with the agreed-upon five percent.
The Young Lawyers League emphasized the significance of Maina’s contributions to the economy and appealed to President Tinubu for a just and compassionate resolution to his current predicament.
