A Nigerian man recently took to social media to share legal advice he received regarding car documents.

He revealed that his lawyer informed him that police officers in Nigeria have no legal authority to request car particulars from drivers. Only Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO), identifiable by their white uniforms, are empowered to inspect such documents.

The man further emphasized that even FRSC officers are not entitled to see car particulars, citing a court ruling that supports this position.

He also noted that, according to his lawyer, many police officers rely on intimidation to coerce drivers into presenting documents, knowing that most people are unaware of their rights.
