You’re Fooling Yourself” – Fayose Reveals What Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso Must Do To Defeat Tinubu

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has said the presidential candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, would struggle to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election unless they are able to form a united political front.

Fayose made the statement during an appearance on TVC’s Politics Tonight, where he also discussed the political implications of Rabiu Kwankwaso becoming Obi’s running mate.

According to the former governor, there is significant dissatisfaction in parts of the North over Kwankwaso’s decision to support Obi’s presidential bid as his running mate.

Fayose maintained that Atiku and Obi had already put themselves at a disadvantage ahead of the 2027 election, arguing that only an unexpected political development could bring the major opposition figures together.

He also warned those expecting President Tinubu to be defeated at the polls, describing such expectations as unrealistic.

Fayose said:

“Let me tell you another bad thing about going to the NDC and Kwankwaso. In Kano, a lot of people are aggrieved that Kwankwaso is deputising Obi.

“In the presidential election, Obi has lost already; Atiku has lost already. Except there is a miracle of them coming together, there is no headway.

“Asiwaju won an election without INEC, without the police, without all the government’s strength. Is it now that you want to take the man out? You are fooling yourself.”

The former governor argued that the window for a broad opposition alliance may have already closed, noting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had accredited the various political parties and candidates.

“It’s too late for a united front because INEC has accredited everybody. Even if you say that you are not doing it again, you are on your own,” he stated.

Fayose also referenced recent developments in the Osun State governorship election, where some politicians reportedly withdrew from the race shortly before the poll.

He described such late decisions as ineffective, insisting that political parties and candidates had already committed themselves to the electoral process.

“Some idiots were stepping down one week before the Osun election. You are only fooling yourself; it’s late. You have put your feet in the water, so you are already wet,” Fayose added.
