Tofowomo, who represented Ondo South Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly, condemned the leaders for allegedly reneging on their promise to support the party’s spokesperson, Kennedy Peretei, for the state chairmanship position — a broken commitment that ultimately led to Peretei’s resignation.

Expressing his frustration, Tofowomo said:
“The party leadership owes Peretei a sincere apology for misleading and betraying him. They were the ones who encouraged him to run for the chairmanship. Had that not been the case, I wouldn’t be this angry.”

He also lamented the PDP’s abysmal performance in the last election, where the party failed to secure a single local government out of the 18 in the state.
“We lost all 18 LGAs. Was I responsible for the party’s failure in other LGAs, including Ajayi’s ward? Even the candidate couldn’t win his own ward,” he added.

Tofowomo reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP, saying:
“I remain a loyal member of the party. I’ve contributed immensely and paid my dues.”

Earlier, Kennedy Peretei had officially resigned from the PDP. In a letter addressed to the Arogbo Ward I Chairman in Ese-Odo Local Government Area, Peretei lamented that the PDP was no longer a viable platform, declaring:
“The party has moved from the Intensive Care Unit to the morgue.”

He cited leadership failure and a lack of vision as his reasons for quitting, stating:
“Those who parade themselves as party leaders have no intention of winning elections — now or in the future.”

Peretei, who had served the party in several key roles, including financial secretary (1999–2003) and publicity secretary, expressed disappointment that despite his long-standing service, entrenched interests have continued to sabotage the party’s progress.
“It’s difficult working with individuals whose only goal is to exploit the party every election year,” he said.
