At a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, convener Nwogu Ndubisi emphasized that the state’s response, particularly regarding notorious bandit leader Turji, has been insufficient. He noted that this inadequacy has exacerbated tensions and insecurity in Zamfara and its neighboring regions.

Zamfara has been facing a severe banditry crisis marked by rampant kidnappings, killings, and cattle rustling. Many rural communities have been forced to pay protection money to bandits to avoid attacks.

The coalition also criticized the allocation of state resources, warning that funding could be misappropriated away from vital public services. They expressed concerns over Governor Dauda Lawal’s response to the military’s recent success in eliminating bandit kingpin Kachalla Halilu, urging him to bolster the military’s efforts to restore peace.

The Situation Room called for greater transparency and accountability in addressing the crisis and urged the federal government, Nigerian Armed Forces, and relevant agencies to intensify their efforts to bring stability to Zamfara and the broader North West region.

Ndubisi stated, “The people of Zamfara deserve a leader who prioritizes their safety and well-being.
