Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke is reportedly exploring alternative political platforms for his 2026 re-election bid amid escalating crises within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Sources indicate that the PDP may be unable to field a candidate for the upcoming Osun governorship election due to internal disagreements. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled political party primaries between November 24 and December 15, 2025, but the partyās internal divisions have hindered compliance with this timeline.
PDP National Vice-Chairman (South), Engr. Kamoru Ajisafe, acknowledged the difficulties, criticizing factional leaders for obstructing primaries and describing ongoing negotiations between Adeleke and Wike as unproductive. Ajisafe stated that the partyās inability to organize a primary in Osun essentially cedes the candidate selection process, potentially leaving Adeleke to seek another platform.
Authoritative sources suggest that negotiations with the Accord Party are nearly complete, with 85 percent of arrangements reportedly finalized. However, the Osun State chairman of the Accord Party, Victor Akande, characterized these reports as speculative, noting that no formal discussions with Adeleke have occurred, though the party would welcome him.
Meanwhile, PDP officials in Osun have affirmed that Adeleke remains a party member and emphasized his continued influence in the state. The party maintains that it is united and committed to supporting his re-election should he remain.
