2027: Moghalu Turns Down Atiku’s Campaign Policy Team Appointment

Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Kingsley Moghalu, has rejected his inclusion in the policy team of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s campaign for the 2027 presidential election.

Moghalu said he was surprised to see his name listed among members of the policy team after the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential campaign unveiled its structure for the election. According to reports, he maintained that he was neither consulted nor asked to give his consent before his name was published as part of the campaign team.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Moghalu clarified that he had not agreed to serve on the team in any capacity, whether officially, unofficially or as an adviser. He stated that his inclusion did not reflect his current position or political involvement.

“I was not consulted and did not give my consent to my name being published as a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team,” Moghalu said, adding that he was not a member of Atiku’s policy team in any capacity.

The former CBN deputy governor also reiterated that he withdrew from partisan politics in Nigeria in 2022. He said he had since maintained a non-partisan position on national affairs and was neither a member nor a supporter of any political party.

Moghalu explained that his current professional activities are centred on public policy and geopolitical risk advisory. He serves as President of the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation (IGET Africa), a non-partisan public policy think tank and executive education academy, and as Chief Executive Officer of Sogato Strategies, a geopolitical risk and regulatory strategy advisory firm.

He further stressed that his commitment to Nigeria remained intact, but said supporting the country’s development did not require him to align with any political party or campaign.

“I remain committed to my country, Nigeria and its progress, but such commitment does not have to entail ANY partisan alignment. I have adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship,” he said.

Moghalu’s clarification came shortly after Atiku’s campaign unveiled its 2027 structure, in which he had been listed among members of the policy team. The development has now established that his inclusion was made without his stated consent.
