At the launch event in Ado-Ekiti, Erelu Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe, the State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, thanked Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his dedication to safeguarding lives and properties while fostering communal prosperity.
Aluko-Ajisafe noted that the state has invested over five hundred million Naira in flood and erosion control through various dredging and desiltation projects. The current desiltation effort will address more than 22,903 meters of drains, culverts, and access slabs across 45 streets and communities in Ado, Ikere, and other towns including Iyin, Awo, Eyio, Esure, Iworoko, Are, and Afao.
She also highlighted that thanks to the administration’s flood and erosion control measures, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency and the National Emergency Management Agency have reported that Ekiti State is not expected to face flash flooding from January to July 2024.
Aluko-Ajisafe urged residents to collaborate with the government in preserving the environment and striving for a flood-free 2024 and beyond.
In support, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, Commissioner for Information, underscored the importance of a clean and healthy environment. He stressed that everyone must take responsibility for proper waste disposal, maintain their homes and public spaces, and support local environmental efforts to ensure a safe and hygienic community
