The APC crisis intensified last week when an Enugu State High Court issued a restraining order against Barr. Ugochukwu Agballah, preventing him from claiming the party chairmanship. This decision led APC National Vice Chairman for the South-East, Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, to accuse the judge of bias and pledge to file a complaint with the National Judicial Council (NJC).

In response, Nwoye underscored that no one is above the law, especially influential leaders. Speaking to journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Enugu Correspondents’ Chapel, he criticized Arodiogbu’s remarks, asserting that such statements challenging legal rulings undermine democratic principles.

Nwoye stated, “When political leaders act as judges and make comments that defy legal principles, encouraging the public to disregard the law, it poses a serious threat to democracy. Obeying the law should be unconditional, irrespective of personal interests.”

He emphasized that as a national vice chairman, Arodiogbu should guide the party responsibly and not interpret constitutional matters unilaterally. Nwoye also noted that the court’s ruling barring Agballah and others from performing their duties and accessing APC properties must be respected.

“Statements contradicting the court’s ruling only fuel discord in Enugu State,” he warned, urging APC leaders to exercise more responsibility in their public discourse.

Nwoye also called on security forces to increase their vigilance to ensure the protection of the acting APC chairman in the state, Chief Alphonsus Nwafor, the judge who issued the injunction, and all APC properties.
