The Department of State Services (DSS) has released a statement clarifying the nature of its visit to the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) office in Abuja on Monday. In response to widespread reports and public concerns, the DSS denied allegations that its officers conducted a raid on the premises.
In a statement posted on its official website, the DSS explained that the visit was part of a “routine investigation” and not the aggressive operation portrayed by various media outlets.
The agency emphasized that the actions of its officers were misrepresented as harassment and intimidation.
The statement reads, “The Department of State Services has received multiple inquiries regarding an alleged unlawful invasion of SERAP offices in Abuja and Lagos. This narrative is both inaccurate and misleading. For the record, a team of two unarmed officers was dispatched for a routine investigation at the SERAP office in Abuja. Unfortunately, this has been misconstrued as an illegal act of harassment and intimidation of SERAP officials.”
The DSS further clarified that such official investigations and communications are standard procedures and do not amount to illegality or raids.
The agency assured that it would thoroughly investigate the spread of “malicious content” related to the incident and urged citizens to participate in national security management. It called on the public to disregard the false narratives and reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism in executing its duties.
