Federal Government To Nigerians: Seek Clearance Before Using National Anthem

The Federal Government has called on Nigerians to seek permission before using the national anthem. In a statement released on Wednesday, October 8, the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, emphasized the importance of this measure to prevent any misinterpretation or misuse.

However, he did not specify in which contexts such permission should be obtained, whether for singing the anthem or using its lyrics.

“As the custodians of Nigeria’s national symbols, the NOA is responsible for preventing their misuse. To avoid misrepresentation, permission must be sought from the Agency before using the National Anthem,” the statement partially read.

Issa-Onilu also clarified that the official Nigerian flag consists of green, white, and green, with the correct shade of green being Emerald 2.0.

He further explained that previous governments concentrated on infrastructure development but neglected value orientation programs, leading to the decline of social structures like the Boys’ Scouts, Girls’ Brigade, WAI Brigade, and the National Orientation Agency itself.

However, Issa-Onilu noted that the current administration, led by President Tinubu, has recognized the importance of value orientation and extended support to the agency. He also highlighted the need to create local cartoon content to counter the influence of foreign values on young Nigerians.
