Makinde Comments On 2027 Presidential Plans As Adeleke, Ortom, And Damagum Visit Oyo StateOyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has asserted that he will solely determine his political future, addressing speculation surrounding a potential presidential bid in 2027. He emphasized that the upcoming election will be a contest between the ruling party and the Nigerian people. Makinde made these remarks during the inauguration of the newly constructed Olusoji Adagunodo Southwest Zonal Secretariat, attended by PDP Acting National Chairman Umar Iliya Damagum, Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke, former Governors Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and other party leaders.

Makinde noted, “What they often say is that it’s not how long, but how well. My late brother Soji Adagunodo was with us for a short time but made a significant impact on Southwest politics. I appreciate Governor Adeleke for being here; it shows your magnanimity and that past conflicts are behind us.”

He acknowledged past disagreements within the party, emphasizing unity among PDP leaders from various regions. “The two PDP governors in the Southwest are here together, showing that if the Southwest is united, Nigeria can unite,” he stated.

Makinde also took the opportunity to announce the appointment of Soji Adagunodo Jr. as his Special Advisor on Regional Integration, expressing gratitude to Governor Adeleke for supporting this appointment.

In addressing ongoing discussions about his political ambitions, he reiterated, “Nobody will set an agenda for me but myself. If there are allegations against the ruling party for attempting to disrupt opposition unity, my view is that cooperation among party members is crucial and independent of external influences.”

He concluded by emphasizing that the next election will be a contest between the APC and the Nigerian people, urging party members to unite for the benefit of the PDP and its supporters. The new secretariat, funded by Makinde, honors the late Olusoji Adagunodo, a former Southwest PDP chairman, and is part of Makinde’s commitment to preserving his legacy.
