Mnyim, who was suspended on October 23, had faced action from the government due to his “unilateral decision” to involve Benue State in a lawsuit questioning the constitutionality of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The suspension came in the wake of the Attorney General’s decision to have the state challenge the legal standing of these federal agencies.
Following the suspension, Mnyim complied with the government’s stipulations by formally withdrawing Benue State from the lawsuit. As a result, the governor lifted the suspension, with Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, confirming the Attorney General’s reinstatement after the council meeting.
In addition to the reinstatement, the council approved several initiatives. A counterpart funding of N30.2 billion was authorized for the construction of five rural roads across Benue’s three senatorial districts. The roads to be developed include Awajir/Oju, Adikpo/Kotiyo/Vandeikya, Ushongo/Har, Igwumale/Agila, and Obagaji/Okokolo/Agagbe.
The council also approved N567 million in compensation for members of the Mbagwa and Mbawa communities in Makurdi, whose lands are designated for the federal housing estate project. Other resolutions included the domestication of the Disability Act for the benefit of persons with disabilities, and a N10 million donation to the Nigerian Legion in observance of this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
Furthermore, the council approved the establishment of the Benue State Signage and Advertisement Agency, which will oversee the regulation of signposts, billboards, and other advertising activities across the state.
