Speaking on Friday during a book launch to celebrate Wike’s 57th birthday in Port Harcourt, Akpabio praised Wike’s transformation of Abuja, calling it a model city. He noted that despite Wike’s affiliation with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), President Tinubu was impressed with his remarkable work as Governor of Rivers State.

In a statement released by Akpabio’s Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, the Senate President highlighted Wike’s achievements, stating that his prior roles as local government chairman, Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Government, and two-term governor of Rivers State made him a fitting candidate for the FCT Ministerial role. Akpabio also emphasized Wike’s remarkable progress in the FCT in less than two years, turning the capital into a major construction hub.

“Your performance as a local government chairman, Chief of Staff, Minister, and two-term governor earned you the job,” Akpabio said. “In less than two years, you’ve turned Abuja into a massive construction site, transforming it into a model city worthy of being the capital of our country.”

Akpabio went on to praise Wike for his life of service, describing him as a purposeful leader dedicated to uplifting communities. He also commended Wike for his fortitude and resilience, reflecting on his rise to prominence despite Nigeria’s challenges during the time of his birth in 1967.

“As a two-term governor, you were a leader of the people and a visionary who acted with purpose,” Akpabio remarked. “You have made an indelible mark on the nation’s history, particularly through your contributions to infrastructure, education, and healthcare. Your passion for sports and the development of youth, particularly in football, reflects your unwavering belief in the potential of the next generation.”

Akpabio also highlighted Wike’s integrity, noting that he had earned a reputation for speaking truthfully and advocating for the rights of his constituents.

He further praised Wike’s family, particularly his wife, for their steadfast support throughout his career. “Together, you and your wife exemplify a partnership that inspires others,” Akpabio said, recognizing the critical role Wike’s family played in his success.
