The presidency also cautioned the Governor against making inflammatory remarks and called on him to retract his statements.

Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, emphasized that the Governor’s comments were inappropriate for someone in his position and did not reflect the dignity of his office.

The presidency’s response came after Governor Mohammed criticized the Tax Reform Bills introduced by President Tinubu’s administration, calling them anti-North and a threat to Nigeria’s unity. The Governor claimed that the reforms appeared to favor certain regions while disadvantaging the North.

Governor Mohammed also urged the Federal Government to reconsider its policies to better serve the interests of all Nigerians, warning that ignoring the people’s concerns could lead to unrest. He stressed that good leadership involves listening and being responsive to the needs of the public.

In its response, the presidency described the Governor’s remarks as unfortunate, stating that they did not reflect the views of the Northern region.

“The recent inflammatory comments from Governor Bala Mohammed regarding the Tax Reform Act, along with his direct threats toward the Federal Government, are unbecoming of a state governor. His statement, ‘We will show President Tinubu our true color,’ is especially concerning and does not contribute to the constructive dialogue needed between the state and federal government,” the presidency stated.

It also pointed out that Bauchi State had received N144 billion in federal allocations (for both state and local governments) under the current administration, a substantial increase from previous years. Despite this, the state continues to face significant developmental challenges and high poverty rates. The presidency suggested that instead of making threats, the Governor should focus his efforts on implementing effective poverty alleviation programs and ensuring transparent use of federal resources.
