In an interview with Punch published on Saturday, Governor Adeleke addressed the topic of godfatherism, asserting that he has no political godfather. He emphasized that unlike traditional godfathers who fund political campaigns with expectations of contracts or financial returns, his brother has only encouraged him to prioritize good governance.
“When a godfather sponsors your election, they expect contracts or financial rewards in return, making you indebted to them. This compromises governance, and after two years, there’s little to show for it,” Adeleke explained.
Expressing gratitude for his family’s support, he added, “My brother, Dr. Deji Adeleke, funded my election but has never asked for a single kobo or any contracts. Instead, he consistently reminds me of my duty to the people of Osun State. He even warned that if I fail to deliver on my promises, he would publicly denounce me.”
Governor Adeleke also dismissed claims of nepotism in his administration, stating that appointments are not dominated by his kinsmen from Ede. He clarified that individuals from Ijesa and Osogbo have, in fact, benefited more from his government appointments.
