In an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Ndume expressed disappointment over the incident but stressed that Nigeria’s leadership must earn the respect it seeks from the international community.

He questioned how a senior military officer from a country as globally significant as Nigeria could be denied a visa. “How can the CDS of Nigeria—a country that is the most populous in Africa and a key player in international peacekeeping—be denied a visa? And this was for an event to honor fallen heroes. I understand why the National Security Adviser (NSA) was so angry,” Ndume remarked.
