During the PDP State Executive Council (SEC) meeting in Yenagoa on Monday, Diri explained that the congress, originally scheduled for February 22, was deferred after the four PDP governors in the South-South informed the National Working Committee (NWC) that the date was unsuitable.
He dismissed claims that a congress had already taken place in Calabar, Cross River State, emphasizing that the party’s national leadership had invalidated such reports and would announce a new date soon.
Diri reassured party members that the PDP remains united and dominant in Bayelsa, urging those eyeing 2027 to recognize the party as their best political platform.
“For those who are considering their political future in 2027, the PDP remains the most viable choice,” he asserted.
He also encouraged party members to ignore divisive speculations, reaffirming that the national leadership, in collaboration with zonal leaders, would set a new date for the South-South congress.
Meanwhile, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and some party chieftains had organized a zonal congress in Cross River, where they elected Dan Osi Orbih as zonal chairman—a move that was rejected by the PDP National Leadership.
