Tension Escalates In Bayelsa PDP As Leadership Rift Deepens Between Turnah And Agwanana
A new crisis is unfolding within the Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a fierce war of words erupts between South-South Zonal Secretary George Turnah and State PDP Chairman Solomon Agwanana.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Tensions escalated after a March 5, 2025 letter, signed by Agwanana, State Secretary Gesiye Isowo, and Publicity Secretary Ebiye Ogoli, accused Turnah of attempting to recruit party officials at different levels to establish a parallel structure within the party.
The PDP leadership in the state warned that Turnah’s actions were deliberate attempts to destabilize the party, cautioning members against aligning with him and threatening sanctions against those who do.
Turnah Hits Back: ‘Time for Change Has Come’
In response, Turnah, through his media aide Kevin Loveday-Egbo, dismissed the allegations and criticized Agwanana’s leadership, insisting that his tenure was nearing its end.
Turnah blamed Agwanana for the declining influence of the PDP in Bayelsa, alleging that his leadership failures had pushed committed party members to the opposition and fostered internal factionalism.
He further urged Governor Douye Diri to resist being misled by Agwanana’s political maneuvering, pointing out that low attendance at a recent State Executive Council (SEC) meeting reflected growing dissatisfaction within the party.
‘PDP Must Be Rescued From Collapse’
Turnah stressed the need for urgent intervention, warning that if the crisis is not resolved, the PDP could suffer further setbacks. He called on party members to unite and restore integrity to the party by ensuring the emergence of a credible leadership.
“As leaders of this party, we must rescue it from Agwanana’s incompetence. His inability to manage the party has led to mass discontent,” Turnah declared.
He urged PDP stakeholders at both state and national levels to recognize the urgent need for change and push for a leadership that prioritizes accountability, unity, and effective governance.
