Igbokwe argued that Fubara’s conduct was more akin to that of a student union president rather than a state leader. This comes after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday, resulting in the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy, and all elected lawmakers—an action that has sparked division among Nigerians.
While the move has drawn sharp opposition from various stakeholders, particularly from the opposition parties who argue that it is unconstitutional for the president to suspend elected officials, both the Senate and the House of Representatives endorsed the emergency declaration on Thursday.
Amidst the controversy, Igbokwe took to Facebook, stating, “In actions and words, Fubara never spoke as a sitting governor. He acted and spoke more like a Student Union President.”
In another post, Igbokwe revealed his belief that President Tinubu had been strategizing for his re-election since before assuming office in 2023. Despite criticism from opposition parties regarding the president’s economic policies, Igbokwe expressed confidence that Tinubu would defeat any challengers in 2027, asserting that Tinubu had already positioned his supporters across key sectors to ensure his re-election.
“The truth is that those who wish to challenge PBAT in 2027 are not as smart as he is. Before stepping into Aso Villa, he had already begun preparing for 2027, with his men planted everywhere,” Igbokwe posted.
