Court Puts Brakes On Recall Process For Sen Natasha, Halting INEC’s Involvement
The Federal High Court in Lokoja has granted an interim injunction preventing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from receiving, accepting, or acting on any petition that allegedly contains “fictitious signatures and names” aimed at initiating a recall process against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Justice Isa H. Dashen issued the ruling, ordering that INEC, its staff, agents, or representatives must not engage with any purported petitions featuring fictitious signatures and names from individuals allegedly from the Kogi Central Senatorial District. The court further barred INEC from conducting any referendum on such petitions for the recall of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan until the Motion on Notice is resolved.
The decision followed an ex-parte application filed by Anebe Jacob Ogirima and four other registered voters from Kogi Central. The application, supported by an “Affidavit of Extreme Urgency,” was presented by Smart Nwachinemere, Esq., of West-Idahosa, SAN & Co.
Justice Dashen also directed that the court’s order, along with the Motion on Notice, be served to the defendant/respondent, pending the outcome of the substantive suit. The case is adjourned to May 6, 2025, for a report on service and further mention.
