Lesotho’s national football team coach, Leslie Notsi, has confirmed that the country’s Football Association has officially lodged a complaint against South Africa over the alleged use of an ineligible player, Teboho Mokoena, during a recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Group C.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The controversy stems from South Africa’s 2-0 victory over Lesotho, a match in which Mokoena featured despite reportedly accumulating two yellow cards in previous qualifiers. The Secretary-General of the Lesotho Football Association, Mokhosi Mohapi, stated that they have formally contacted FIFA to verify Mokoena’s eligibility.
If FIFA rules in Lesotho’s favor, South Africa could be docked three points, while Lesotho would be awarded a 3-0 victory, significantly impacting the Group C standings. This could also benefit Nigeria’s Super Eagles, who currently trail South Africa by six points.
When asked about the situation, Coach Notsi remained composed and diplomatic. “While I understand the significance of this issue, my focus remains on our upcoming match against Rwanda,” he told Soccer Laduma.
He added, “The relevant authorities will handle the matter. I acknowledge that formal complaints have been made, but I cannot comment on the specifics or the current status of the inquiries.”
